Today I answer a question from a angry test-taker who went through something I have gone through and most of you will go through(if not already) during the PTE exam.
Angry test-taker- “I face issue with the noise in the exam during the speaking section. It is so much noisy, people start shouting, I find that irritating while doing tasks? I need some specific inputs before attempting next time. Any help is highly appreciated.”
Watch the video below or read the post to see the solution.
In the exam, during the speaking section, there are usually several students speaking at the same time in the background. It can be difficult to concentrate.
When I took the exam, there was a lady shouting her answers louder than a desperate street hawker in a crowded market!! I sure she believed that the louder she shouted, the higher her scores would be.
The funny thing is she was sitting at the other side of the exam hall. I can only imagine what the people closer to here must have been going through. It felt irritating, especially during the personal introduction and first few ‘Read Aloud’s’.
As much as I would have enjoyed thinking of ways to shut her up, I knew that thinking and stressing about her voice would only make things worse for my exam. So I just focused on my exam, the questions in front of me and in the end everything went well.
If it gets extremely bad, you can always signal to the external examiner present about the person; However, your test does not stop or pause if you do this, so be mindful.
Remember that the the mic is designed only to pick up only your voice. So as long as you pay attention to the task at hand, you will be fine. The more you focus on your exam, the less of an issue external noises will be.

August 3, 2017 at 11:23 pmHello Steve,
My name is Raj and I’m from Hyderabad, India.
I gave my first attempt on July 17, 2017 and got an overall score of 71, whilst the individual module scores are as shown below:
Speaking:62
Writing:77
Reading:77
Listening:69
I followed your videos posted on YouTube, and few videos posted by Jay from E2language and also registered for an online course @ Tcyonline.
These things helped me to certain extent, however I couldn’t spend more time for preparation. I also followed your video on how did you manage your prep whilst going to work.
Currently, I’m in a dilemma of whether to pursue classroom training or should I go with a promising online material that can help me in scoring 79+ in all modules.
Instead of procrastinating things I have decided to attend a demo session from a PTE training institute a week ago and I couldn’t get convinced with it. So, nothing is really helping me in getting back to my prep, considering the fact that I’ve booked my exam again in the first week of September.
And finally I’m here writing this email asking you if your book “Ultimate guide to pte academic” which is priced @ Rs.995 will help in achieving my desired score.
I really appreciate your efforts in helping all of us.
Thank you once again!
Regards
Raj Beerpur
